My husband talks in his sleep. A lot. And lately, when I come to bed (usually a while after he's already asleep) he sits up in bed and starts rambling random sentiments about driving or music or... "and then"... "if you"... "but it's".......
On Saturday night he decided to give me an unconscious lesson in hunting technique, which I responded to with laughter because his words were jumbled and made no sense.
"You can hunt it just like that."
"Hunt what?"
"It's not hard when you make choices."
"What choices?"
"Any time you hunt you have lots of choices, and you have to choose a choice."
"Yeah...?" I couldn't keep it together throughout his nonsense.
"What's so funny about that?
This seriously frustrated him and he adamantly refused to admit that he was not fully awake. Even the next morning, he continued to deny his incoherent words. So last night, when I climbed into bed and he sat up and greeted me with, "You found it, that's right!", I knew I was in for another bizarre conversation.
"You found it, that's right!"
"Found what?"
"Found the spot."
"What spot?" I asked with a giggle, furiously typing his comments on my phone.
"Why are you laughing?"
"You're not making any sense, that's why."
"What didn't make sense? It's in the corner."
"What's around the corner?"
"You walk around the corner and there's the smile."
"There's a smile?"
"Well, when the sun is shining on you there is."
"You must be having a really nice dream."
"I'm not dreaming. I'm finding the smile."
At that point I told him to roll over and go to sleep because I could tell that he wouldn't let this idea go, and I was ready for some much-needed sleep. But right as I was drifting off, I heard him mumbling.
"Oh, there it is!"
Perhaps a video camera is order for tonight?
I LOVE THIS POST!!! I laughed out loud!
ReplyDeleteConversations like this happen regularly at our house too! Especially during hunting season! Does Joel ever get up and act dreams out? Brock's done that a couple of times - my all time favorite was the night before the last presidential election. I woke up to him jumping on his pillow trying to reach a point way up on the wall close to the ceiling. I asked him what he was doing and he says, "I'm trying to VOTE!" (as if everyone votes by smacking the bedroom wall!) He finally jumped really high, hit the top of the wall with his hand, and said GOT IT! He laid back down and I asked him if he voted, he said YEP! and was all smiles as he rolled back over and quieted down... he has no memory of that.

Ashley- That is hilarious! Isn't it amazing that they can talk so loud and move around and NOT wake up? I don't think Joel has acted out a dream, but he will frequently sit up, open his eyes or turn on a lamp and argue his dream to me. I like to keep asking questions and see where it will go!
